TIE Fighter
Tools and Utilities

These are some small utilities for use with the game TIE Fighter. Although I've been using them myself for some time, I can't guarantee they'll work properly on your machine, so use them at your own risk.

VDMSound

For use with: DOS versions of TIE Fighter (TIE CD, TIE Disk)
Author:Vlad Romanescu
Homepage: http://sourceforge.net/projects/vdmsound/
Download: VDMSound2.1.0.zip (1.73 MB)
Description:VDMSound is a soundcard (and other "legacy" hardware) emulator for MS Windows NT/2000/XP DOS boxes. So if you're running a DOS game like TIE Fighter under Windows, you need this to get sound and joystick support. The Sorceforge project page (link above) has only version 2.04 for download, so I've put the newest existing version (as far as I know) here.

RBJoy

For use with: All games you play with a joystick
Author:Ralf Biedermann
Homepage: http://www.rbsoft.de
Download: rbjoy7.zip (0.74 MB)
Description:RBJoy is mighty useful if you have a joystick with multiple buttons and no configuration program to assign functions to them - be it because the stick is a cheap one and doesn't have a config tool, or because it's a Microsoft Sidewinder and doesn't come with Windows XP support (oh the irony).
With RBJoy, you can map keyboard or mouse inputs (or combinations of them) to joystick buttons. That is not only useful for the DOS versions of TIE Fighter, which come with no joystick config at all, but also for TIE95 - while it allows you to map basic functions, you can't map combinations of keys with it, e.g SSS (to even out shield power). Here is where RBJoy comes in mighty handy (Click here to see my joystick config as an example).
Of course you can use this program with any other game as well. It can store (and easily switch between) configuration files for each game you want to use it with.
RBJoy has a horribly clumsy UI I'm afraid, but once you have figured out how the configuration is done, the mapping works perfectly.
The author calls this software "CharityWare" which means that it's a full version that you are free to download, but you're asked to make a small donation in case you use it over an extended period of time. See the author's homepage for more information (and some other programs, too).

TIE95.EXE (EHBL bridge for TIE-CD)

For use with: TIE-CD (when used with EHBL/Win, VDMS and WinXP)
Author:Tempest
Homepage:right here :)
Download: TIE-CD-EHBL-WinXP.zip (0.33 MB)
Description:You may find this little bridge program useful if you want to run TIE-CD with the Windows version of the EH Battle launcher. Read the how-to.txt that's included in the zip for the details.

TIE 95 Silencer Mod

For use with: TIE 95
Author:Tempest
Homepage:right here :)
Download: SFXDOE.LFD (0.04 MB)
Description:Copy the LFD file into the TIE95/RESOURCE folder (replacing the existing one) to get rid of the annyoing engine noises.
